NEW START: A SIMPLE paradigm for optimal health
As we transition from winter into spring, we honor the unique vibrations of each season. Where winter blesses us with rest, rejuvenation and the stillness of retrospection, spring blesses us with renewal, awakening, and the expansion of our evolution.
To truly embody these gifts of spring requires that we operate from an elevated state of health. Unfortunately, due to an outdated and crumbling medical model, along with an excess of information and opinions on wellness – creating a healthy, satisfying life has become an expensive, complicated and daunting task.
I would like to suggest that we reintroduce a spirit of simplicity into our lives. When we operate from a space of simplicity there is a natural slowing down of our internal rhythms and cycles. One collective challenge is that our minds thrive on complexity and analysis – and as such - do not trust the softness of simplicity. As we unburden the mind with the intense responsibility to make us healthy (or heal us) and return this rightful power and authority to the body – we experience a subtle shift toward simplicity.
We desperately need a new framework for our health. A new paradigm which prioritizes the simplicity of living a life aligned with the slow, steady beat of the ever-changing seasons.
The acronym NEW START provides this paradigm with eight (8) practical pillars of health. Each letter, found below, represents a core component of optimal functioning and well-being.
N – Nutrition: Eating whole, nutrient-dense foods to support optimal body function.
E – Exercise: Regular physical activity to maintain cardiovascular health, strength and mobility.
W – Water: Proper hydration for detoxification, digestion, cognition and cellular function.
S – Sunlight: Safe sun exposure for mood, circadian and overall internal cycle regulation.
T – Temperance: Avoiding harmful substances (toxins/processed foods/negativity) and practicing moderation in all things.
A – Air: Clean air intake and proper breathing techniques for oxygenation and stress reduction.
R – Rest: Adequate sleep and relaxation (daily/weekly/monthly) for recovery and hormonal balance.
T – Trust: Managing stress, fostering positive relationships and spiritual well-being.
These pillars of health provide a simple template of how we can structure our environment (and therefore our lives) in order to obtain higher and more expanded states of health. When we rejoin the natural cycles and flow of earth and the cosmos, we experience the vitality, serenity, and simplicity of our divine nature. May the gifts of spring find full expression in your life and all those around you through a purposeful return to simpler living.
